ISSUE #6: Adelaide City, South Australia

Founded in 1836, this cute town is laid out on a grid with a charming city center and lots of open space. It’s loaded with historic charm. Adelaide weather is moderate. Year-round blue skies yield winter temperatures of 61°F and 82°F in summer. It’s summer right now Down Under.
This is area Australia’s wine capital, bar none. Nearby McLaren Valeis home to the Davey Estate (my friends and partners, above); stop by and sample new and library releases at their cellar door! There’s also Langhorne Creek on the Fleurieu Peninsula, Barossa and Coonawarra (reds) and the Clare Valley (Rieslings). The Adelaide Hills has some stunning whites, too. Basically it’s bacchanalia.
A short ferry ride from the town, Kangaroo Island is a jewel and the best place in Australia to see native animals in the wild. March is peak event season. Check out the Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe (a huge fine and performing arts fest), and sports fans will love the Santos Tour Down Under (cycling) and Clipsal 500 V8 car race.
As I write this, I’ve taken my own advice and am presently visiting this lovely region with my beautiful wife, Courtney. Wish you were here!
