Ruler and twine on a craft board

ISSUE #18: Favorite Brand – Orox Leather Co.

Named for two places: Oregon and Oaxaca, this four-generations-old family operation first mastered leather-crafting in Mexico and later set up shop in Portland in 2012. From utility bags to belts, everything is made in Portland by hand with care. Part of the secret of what makes the products so long-lasting is “going slow,” says patriarch Jose Martinez. Everything starts with a hand sketch, collaboration among the family, then hand-cutting leather and assembly. Among my favorite Orox products are the open-top carry bags that you can throw everything in and go, such as the Courier Satchel and the Merces Tote.
